Hello and thank you for reading this! As you may know, Catoosa County very recently dealt with an abandoned newborn, who was found dead at a park.

My goal for this petition is to get signagures from other Trenton locals who are interested in backing me with setting up a Safe Haven Baby Box in our town. I have tried connecting with numerous city officials but have had no success reaching them tthus far. My hope is to get signatures and bring it before a public forum to discuss.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes are a secure box for mothers to safely and anonymously surrender their infant. The boxes are installed on the side of a building- such as a hospital, fire station, or police station. The mother opens the door, places the newborn inside, and closes the door. Once the door is shut, it immediately locks from the outside, and a sensor sets off a silent alarm that alerts 911. A responder should be there in 5 minutes or less, allowing for a safe and temperature controlled surender.

After Roe v. Wade being overturned, there are mothers who will be left with children thathey do not want, or children that they feel ill-prepared to care for. I believe it is important to set these mothers and children up for success, and I believe Baby Boxes are one good way to do it. They are safe, provide increased anonymity for the mother, and faster response to the surrendered infant. These boxes can save lives of future infants.
