Tennant Creek Youth Curfew - Decrease Crime, Increase Responsibility

There is no need for children to be walking the streets unsupervised at all hours of the night other than criminal activity. These sons and daughters who roam the streets at night have parents who’s negligence is making all the sons and daughters of Tennant Creek suffer. It should not be hard to find these parents and make them accountable for the destruction of this town.

It is not just the destruction of property, but the years and years of hard work behind it, only for it to be undone in minutes because the reward far outweighs the risk of three square meals or a slap on the wrist.

Criminals can take their pick of any kid on the street to do their bidding, the child can lie, not get prosecuted, and the adult manipulator is out of sight and out of mind.

To avoid this unnecessary destruction, legislation should be put in place at the very first instance of negligence. Where is your child? Why is your child walking the streets? Why are you not watching your child?

It takes a community to raise a child, and what kind of community do we live in where a blind eye is turned to children and pre-teens just roaming around at night, to be manipulated? to be raped? To vandalise? To steal? To go on high speed joy rides? Somewhere the ball has been dropped and somewhere there are biological parents who meet the criteria of unfit mother or unfit father.

How much can be avoided with a curfew and parent accountability? How many kids have walked too far down the wrong path because of our blind eye?

Inaction as history shows will lead to division, to vigilante’s, which will then lead to manslaughter, and that is not the kind of town I want to live in.
