We are four high school students at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School.
As part of our junior year religion praxis project, our goal is to address injustices within our society and how we hope to spread awareness and bring about change. After researching and learning about the DACA program’s grim fate under the Trump administration, we became deeply invested in helping DACA recipients, specifically in the D.C., Maryland, Virginia area, who would be drastically affected by this decision.
We started this petition in hopes of influencing the passage of legislation that would aid those have sought entry into the United States and now are seeking legal status.
Although we stand by the DACA program, we cannot help but notice its shortcomings. We would like a path to citizenship for DACA recipients and avoid the limbo status that they are forced to endure today because of the threat to the DACA program.
America has been a beacon of hope for many people who have come from impoverished and corrupt countries, allowing them to pursue a better life in the United States. The DACA program is an extension of that hope and it is our responsibility to keep hope alive.
We are a nation of nations therefore immigrants decide our fates. We must remember, their future is our future.
