I am proposing an alert system that falls in between AMBER ALERT, and SILVER ALERT. Support the YELLOW ALERT system and help the adult missing get the same attention from ALL law enforcement!
This petition is in honor of my mother, Martha "Marti" Ellen Myers. She went missing in August of 2013 and was laid to rest in October 2013. She was a resident of Castaic, California and born in San Diego, CA.
Missing Persons ages 19 to 64 have no alert system in place that families and authorities can rely on to send out a mass notification to the media, the Department of Transportation, and the public, of a missing persons status. The only way an alert is sent out in this age range is if there is a pre-existing mental illness or urgent medical need.
The thousands of families whose loved ones do not fit that criterea are left to their own devices. My family created a Facebook Page, reached out to hundreds of thousands of people through paid ads on Facebook, our friends reached out to their friends, and we were lucky enough to find a reporter who pushed to put Marti's story on the air.
Valuable time is wasted and many times, family and friends have little to no monetary resources available to them. My family and I had to hold a fundraiser. Not only are you dealing with the agony of a loved one missing but you're having to be a search party and financial fund too.
Why is a value placed on those from ages 0 to 18 and 64+ but in between those ages, there is no alert system in place? Together WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE. We can help find the missing, faster, if we are aware they are missing. Support the YELLOW ALERT system and help the adult missing get the same attention from ALL law enforcement!
