Lower Tuition For Online Semester at Georgian College

Students of Georgian College will be forced to learn remotely through online classes in September 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. We had a trial of what online classes are like in March & April during our Winter semester when the pandemic began. It is safe to say that online classes lack the engagement and effective learning environment that in-person classes give. Ultimately, students must teach themselves the material; reading and analyzing information with minimal explanation from professors. We can not simply raise our hand and ask for clarification.

As students, we believe it is fair that tuition is lowered for an online semester. We will not be using water or electricity on campus. The Fitness Center will not be open. The Library will not be open. The Cafeteria will not be open. Custodial staff will not be needed. Student resources are greatly limited. Tuition should be lowered to fairly match what we are receiving.

When we started our programs, we expected in-class discussions, lectures, and activities that would help us learn to the best of our ability. Georgian College is a college of applied arts and technology. It is difficult to apply what we learn while sitting at home on our computers. We deserve compensation for what we are missing out on. We deserve lowered tuition rates for an online semester.
