From: The Residents of Telugu speaking community of Georgia

To

The Hon. Brian P. Kemp,

Governor of Georgia, Atlanta.

Subject: Request and to issue proclamation to recognize Telugu language (India) as Classical and most Influential Language in Georgia

Dear Hon. Governor Kemp,

First, let us thank you for your outstanding leadership in the state of Georgia and the positive direction you are leading the state. We 80,000 strong Telugu speaking community Georgia residents pay an estimated $300 Million per annum state income tax, + $30 Million/annum sales tax, and have created over 250,000 Georgia jobs.

Telugu language, also known as Italian of the east, is one of the 22 official languages of India and is spoken by over 80 million people worldwide, including over 750,000 in the USA. In fact, it is officially recognized as the fastest growing language and population segment in the United States. Telugu is over 5000+ years old and has a Sanskrit foundation. It is the main language of 2 out of 28 Indian states. Telugu has a thousand years of continuous literary production patronized by major kings and important individuals, ranging as far back as the 11th century. Two Indian former Presidents, one former Prime Minister and the current Vice President of India are of Telugu origin.

The Telugu speaking community has served Georgia very well since the 1960s. Here is a short list for your kind ready reference:

There are over 1,000 Telugu speaking doctors and many of them are in the Covid19 frontlines. In fact, Southern Regional Medical Center in Clayton County is owned by Telugu people.

There are over 500 IT Companies owned by Telugu speaking people in Georgia and they generate an annual revenue of more than $1Billion and over 200,000 jobs.

There are over 500 Telugu speaking people in the academic/training profession right from elementary schools to universities. In fact, Emory University has a Chair of Excellence in Telugu studies, established with a donation of over 1 Million dollars from Telugu people of Georgia. The rise of Telugu was connected to the links forged between the two Telugu speaking states of Telangana (Hyderabad), Andhra states and the Georgia engineering and technology industries. Armed with the knowledge of Telugu Studies gained at Emory, these students and professors will be able to more effectively conduct research as professionals in Andhra Pradesh.

Over 30% of all gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants and other businesses are owned/operated by Telugu people.

There are many well-known Attorneys, CPAs, Administrative Staff, Civil Engineers, Media, Real Estate Agents and many more from the Telugu community.

Considering the positive impact, the Telugu speaking community have had on the state of Georgia, serving in nearly every facet of life from academia to business, medicine, research; we are requesting acknowledgment and the rightful honor of Telugu language being recognized as Classical and most Influential language in Georgia. We are herewith also attaching the signatures of 10,000+ Telugu speaking people of Georgia in support of this petition.

We thank you for your time and consideration. Please feel free to contact us at Tangirala.reddy@gmail.com (Tangirala Satyanarayana Reddy)  or dilato2000@yahoo.com (Srinivas Kilambi) with any questions.

Sincerely,
