We as young women and as minorities in society found hate crimes frightening. Because we all belong to minority groups, it is very scary to hear on the news that someone who has the same religion, race, or sexuality as you has been targeted in an act of vandalism or violence. Instead of sitting idly by and being afraid of what could happen, we decided to let others know of these horrible crimes. Thus was born our anti- hate crime campaign.
While researching, we discovered how many threatening acts have been directed towards people in the US. Our eyes were opened to how many have been affected by media threats to attacks in the streets. As aforementioned, we care very much that we have the opportunity to raise awareness for this growing problem, and hope people see this campaign as an opportunity to feel free to be themselves and safe enough to do so.
As well as raising awareness, we want someone from the Trump admin to reinforce President Barack Obama's Hate Crime Prevention Act. We also feel as though President Trump and the first lady should address the resent hate crimes following the election, seeing as most of the prejudice is coming from their supporters. We want this to be heard, "We will NOT settle for a tweet."
With warmest regards,
Emmifer's Campaign Admin.
