The Georgia State Invitational Tournament and Georgia State Championship Tournament are some of the most important tournaments in the state of Georgia. This year these tournaments came into conflict with standardize testing and final exams for several school and college students. As "Student Athletes of Colleges and High Schools" we should not have to decide between academics and chess. The GA State Scholastic Invitational and the GA State Championship  event is always such an anticipated tournaments of the year!

During the months of April and May, schools and colleges schedule several state levels tests, such as the End of Course assessments,  Advanced placement College Board Exams, and semester finals. All these tests are scheduled and mandatory for High School students. These tests impact our overall GPA.

We think it is important for us to be able to participate in these two major chess tournaments of the state, without having to choose between academics and chess. Therefore, we are asking that you change the date of these two tournaments so that we can participate in these events without a conflict. A change to the date (August-December) would allow so many more players to participate. If no action is taken, these tournaments truly wouldn't be open to every player who wants to participate. Please consider this from several high-schooler who have missed one of these tournaments because of testing.
