Why this petition matters
When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume amount the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that amoung these are Life, Liberty and pursuit of Happiness.- That to secure these right, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.-That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it ... These words, penned by Thomas Jefferson and adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. These words stimulated a revolution that forever changed the world and gave hope and inspiration to countless people throughout the world. The problem is this: these words remain untrue in the lives of millions of people who are continually denied the truths that are declared in this document.Since the conception of this country, certain individuals have been denied the " unalienable Rights" the founding fathers of this country seemed Worthy enough to revolt against Britain to insure that they have. Since the nearly two hundred and forty six years since the adoption of this document, daily, this declaration has been proven to be a lie. The echoes of countless cries of pain from those who learned first hand that not all lives matter, to the father's and sons that are incarcerated for crimes they never committed because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time and fell victim to the golf course deals made by those who have made a practice of abusing power that an over trusting community bestowed upon them. Such is the case for Jeffrey Hampton, a man who has given almost 8 years of his life for a crime he was not aware had even taking place. There was no physical evidence or any proof that he was in any way involved in committing the crime in which he was convicted... Isn't almost eight years enough time served, when the sentencing guidelines requires one third of the court imposed sentence. We are asking that the Board of Pardons and Parole grant Mr. Hampton Parole, so that he could be home with his family. He has learned his lesson, his institution file speaks for itself. Mr.Hampton has successfully completed his case plan, Barbering, cuts inmates and Staff hair, and mentors to younger men in which are incarcerated.
