The Tombs, a beloved institution by the students  and faculty of Georgetown University since 1962, has been temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, and according to local guidelines, Georgetown has decided to move forward with an in person Graduation ceremony for the spring of 2021. Due to this new development, the current student body of Georgetown University would like to see Tombs reopen for the graduation ceremony weekend.

Tombs has been near and dear to the student body at Georgetown University for more than 50 years! This years’s graduating seniors unfortunately missed a tradition held by many Georgetown graduates prior - the 99 day club. This tradition holds that the student must visit the favorite Hoya hangout for 99 days in a row leading to graduation.

The COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately cut plenty of graduating student’s college experience short, and like many students, we believe that the Georgetown student body deserves one last hurrah!

Hundreds of students and their families will be visiting Georgetown for the graduation ceremony at the end of this month. This may very well be the first time they’ve been to Georgetown since the onset of the pandemic in March of 2020. We believe that Tombs reopening can provide students and family with a warm welcome back, as students get to live back their nostalgia from the previous several years of hard work!
