Keep Georges River Council Childcare flexible and fair for working families

On the 17th August the families who use Penshurst Long Day Care (operated by Georges River Council) were advised that from 2018 we would no longer be able to access flexible childcare according to our needs. Without any warning or consultation the Council announced a movement to a fixed day attendance system for all children - including existing families who use the centre in a pattern that doesn't fit with the new proposal.
We use childcare because we have work and study commitments - often which we have little control over. This decision by Council is entirely driven by financial and efficiency considerations and puts the needs of children and their parents last. We are now faced with the prospect of changing our work arrangements or moving our children to new centres - both options which are causing significant stress and distress to families. It is outrageous that in 2017 a Government organisation is allowed to implement such an anti-family policy with no community consultation whatsoever.
We use this council run childcare centre because it offers high quality care and because, in theory, a council run centre should be sensitive to the needs of the local community.
Help us tell Georges River Council that families and children using childcare deserve better and demand a return to flexible enrolment practices at our centre.
