Bring our Boards Back to our Pools

Please bring our diving boards back to our community pools; Beaconsfield Heights Pool, Beaurepaire Pool and Windermere Pool. Our aging pools have been around for over 55 years and no longer conform to the new safety rules for diving boards. It is time to renovate and update our facilities. In all these years, there have never been any major injuries in all the 1 meter diving boards in the NAA or ALPS outdoor pools.

There have been surveys done on sports injuries and those attributed to diving have been among the least reported injuries in hospitals. As for injuries in diving, most occur in residential pools. Most importantly, education and teaching our kids how to dive ensures safety on the boards.

My son has been diving with the Pointe-Claire diving club for many years and his love for diving started from our outdoor pools. It is a shame to take away a sport entirely from our programs. We have had great representation from our local divers at the international levels, and many have had their start from one of our pools.

It is time to renovate our aging community pools. The city, being a great supporter on doing all that is best for our environment and water consumption is certainly one of their major concerns. So why not encourage our residents to be part of these pools (and not build one in their backyard) and help improve the services and needs in our community.
