Fix drainage, save property and livelihood

Fix drainage, save property and livelihood
Why this petition matters

Dear Sir,
We the people of Walter Cheddesingh have a grave concern with the flooding that has been occurring for a number of years. It has come to a point where we can no longer endure and need your urgent help.
Whenever it rains in the Subdivision it causes major flooding of roads which flows on to the property of residents. As a result, the septic tanks are often flooded which can be a major health hazard. This does not only affect the residents of Walter Cheddesingh, but it has affected the wider communities of Savanna-La- Mar. Though flooding is our primary concern, we see where it further leads to sanitation, road and transportations problems – and these are just a few .
Before flooding, the roads were of concern and today the asphalt is non-existent. Going into town just to get groceries is thought provoking when one considers the condition of the road. There are a number of potholes that residents have patched themselves and this has been done numerous times. However, these efforts are only temporary when considering the propensity of the roads to flooding. Several motorists have lost their tyres due to the crater like potholes. For the residents who do not have private transportation, it also poses a problem to get a taxi to go to and from home. Working residents and students cannot walk the road without encountering water, mud or marl and this affects their ability to ensure a well kept appearance. Drivers refuse to turn onto certain parts of the subdivision and this threatens the safety and livelihood of residents which should not to be taken lightly. It can cause undue stress - economic and otherwise - not only to individual homes , but to the community and Central Westmoreland at large.
Sanitation is no compromise for any place of dwelling. Earlier it was mentioned that septic tanks are being affected by the flood water. The problems from here can be even more astronomical. If septics are being affected we do not want to risk our drinking water being compromised. Furthermore, the settling of water provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pathogenic organisms. Needless to say, mosquitoes are major vectors of disease which can affect a wide populusn - not just the residents of Walter Cheddesingh. We have all seen the dire effects of epidemics/pandemics and the vulnerable such as children, elderly and immunocompromised are always at risk.
We the residents, would like to Thank you for the changes that you, Mr Wright, have done for Central Westmoreland with your lobbying to make us significant again. Your work to get more funding, encouraging youth and infrastructure development is no easy task and we commend you for that.
We would like a permanent solution for the flooding in Walter Cheddesingh and have currently formed a community association where we can constructively take our concerns to the table. Our plight has too long been overlooked and we are resolute in remedying this cause. We would kindly ask for your response and input on the matter as we are READY to make changes in the community.
Yours Truly,
Residents of Walter Cheddesingh
