Reverse public health cuts that will cost billions!
This petition had 222 supporters
The Government has cut £200million from the public health grant to local authorities and will cut public health budgets by 4% per year.
Instead of saving money, the long-term cost of these cuts to the NHS and the economy is expected to be in the billions.
This is because local authorities provide critical sexual and reproductive health services and play a key role in general illness prevention and public health and wellbeing.
Cuts will directly impact the health of people and communities who rely on these services and this will cost the NHS and the economy in the long run.
Less access to contraceptive services will also lead to more unintended and teenage pregnancies and greater population growth in a country where population levels are already set to increase by 10 million people over the next 25 years. This will put even greater stress on housing, public services, natural resources and the environment.
The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, the Faculty of Public Health and the NHS Confederation, as well as many other leading medical, care and wellbeing organisations have stated their opposition to these cuts labelling them “a false economy”.
Please sign our petition to stand alongside these organisations and to demand that the government reverse these cuts, which will not only cost billions but also damage lives and the future of our society in the process.
