Jay Smith started this petition to George Brown College

The students attending George Brown College in Toronto Ontario for Gemmology are being told that they must attend 3+ days a week in school starting January 11th 2021 in order to graduate as Gemmologists, and if they do not wish to risk their health with in-person studies, that they will be forced to drop the course and not graduate. With the recent spikes in those affected, and deceased by Covid-19, the students in this program have tried to rally together virtually, and reach out to as many resources as possible, along with brainstorming new ideas for different styles of learning which ensures the health and safety of all. Some students in this program not only have extremely immune compromised family members within their home, but they themselves are immune compromised- and signed up for this certification, as it was offered to start with: Online Only. We wish for the online only option to continue as we could not fathom an outbreak starting from our classroom, and one of us causing a horrific illness to impact anyone else inside of our homes. We are hoping to get signatures for the college to see and respect our wishes of extremely limiting in-person learning. We want to contribute to a safe society, where we are doing everything we can to keep those we love and care for as safe as possible. Virtual learning should be an option, and we should not have to choose between our education, and our families/personal safety. Many students who are funding their own learning, and are extremely passionate about the course are now considering dropping out all-together due to the health risk to elderly family members in the home, and safety risks. Please help us by respectfully showing George Brown that we wish to have the online learning option for the good of all, thank you.
