Why this petition matters

Started by ANTHONY DELCID

“Homelessness is like public education – something that for far too long we havent put the resources or love or attention into” - Eric Garcetti. During the years, hundreds of families struggled to keep up with the increasing rent. We always see a bunch of people moving from where they grew up just to find a place with cheaper rent. As our economy is getting slightly better, the amount of people having severe conditions in the streets are getting much higher. I know we can achieve the goal of decreasing the rent and changing a bunch of low income families lives. The number of homeless people in the streets are extremely high and they continue to get larger as the rent increases. Some may say that the increase improves the economy. Although that may seem helpful since they will earn more money, is it worth dislocating native New Yorkers and risking them to be homeless? We should and have to make some laws that make prices go up by only 2 to 3%. Which would lower poverty rates while giving people an easier time to pay rent.
