The far-right in Ireland are attempting to intimidate people online while Facebook and Twitter turn a blind eye.
Over the past few days I have become the target of a far-right fringe candidate in the Fingal by-election, my local area.
She has me accused of “harassing” her but I was simply asking questions about her policies — questions she should expect during a normal canvass and should be able to answer if she was a serious politician.
Her reaction shows her contempt for the public: posting my photo on social media and lying about me to incite a mob.
Facebook and Twitter have allowed her, with impunity, to post this and various other hateful posts targeting people and groups that are in far more vulnerable positions than myself.
The behaviour of O'Doherty and other far-right extremists should be a clear violation of Facebook and Twitters community standards which claim not to support "Hate Speech" and "Targeted Harassment".
But despite the regular reporting of her posts by people being threatened and intimidated, Facebook and Twitter have allowed these posts to remain.
We need Facebook and Twitter to start taking its own community standards seriously and stop platforming the intimidation tactics of the far-right.
She has previously been banned from Youtube over a breach of their hate speech policy
Sign this petition to tell social media giants to stick to their own definition of harassment and remove Gemma O'Doherty from their platform.
They must acknowledge their role in the rise of the far-right and stop platforming this intimidating and dangerous behaviour.
