GCSE exam boards: Remark June 2012 English GCSE exams
Exam boards have unfairly changed the grade boundaries, marking down the English GCSE June 2012 participants in a bid to "maintain the worth of the GCSE" and ripped away the chances of the students who took the exams. Many who retook exams from January in June, put in hours, weeks and months of preparation but we received a grade lower in our English exams than if we had got the same mark in January.
A false consciousness was created and many of us put in hard work, thinking it would pay off and that we would achieve the grade we deserved for all the effort put into the exam. Instead, the chances of receiving the grades wanted, and needed, were stolen from the students and, for many of us, life chances were automatically affected.
Had students achieved the same results a few months prior to the recent exam, many of them would have received at least a grade above what they were given on results day. In 1998, 45% of people from a higher social class and a mere 20% of people from a lower social class participated in courses leading to higher qualifications. It's only natural that by 2012 these percentages have increased but this sudden unfairness may have just altered the chances young people have to take up a course in further education.
Many people claim that the children of today are the generation of the future, if that is true, why are our chances and achievements being destroyed?
Please join us in calling on the exam boards and the Education Secretary Michael Gove MP to consider a full re-marking for the June 2012 English GCSEs so we can restore the life chances of the students and allow them to receive the grades they deserve.
