Stop Gaylord highschool having the special education kids clean the commons
Every day after the three lunches are held the special education students that come to our school are brought out of their room too fix chairs and clean the commons. Personally and others have seen that some these students will attempt to protest cleaning and will be told things such as “you see him/her doing it you can do it get back to it”. I understand they could be teaching core skills such as cleaning and maintaining, however this could be taught in their classroom. They could organize their lockers, their desks, the classroom and the items they use for activities. I believe and many others, that our school has janitorial systems in place, so these core skills should not be taught by having these students clean others students messes that they don’t get to really associate with. These students don’t eat in the commons nor spend time in the commons unless they are taking a walk or cleaning. There are far better ways and more ethically and societally acceptable ways to teach these students these skills and we as gaylord high school students want change.
