I as well as many of my friends and family members have a relative in the San Bernardino County Adelanto Detention Center. In this facility there are only permitted video visits since all their visits are done on a video screen. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, all inmate visits have been cancelled indefinitely due to the safely of staff and inmates. Although I completely understand why this is being done, I do not feel it should apply to a facility with only video visits. Inmates need to have the ability to communicate with family in these very scary times. 

There are multiple ways people can properly social distance in this facility. There are about 50 phone booths in the facility. It can be arranged for families to be seated 2-3 booths apart and the booths can be disinfected between visits. This allows for proper distancing. There is also a phone account that inmates can call their loved ones called "SECURUS" and through this service at certain facilities families are able to have video visits in the comfort of their homes. This should be made available for this facility so families can show support to their loved ones during these hard times at their own financial expense.
