Kay Riley started this petition to Governor Gavin Newsom

Disney announced this week they would be laying off 28,000 employees. This comes after almost 4 million Californians are out of work due to state closures for the past 7 months. Most unemployed workers will be running out of unemployment benefits in the next several weeks. California’s economy heavily relies on tourism and the entertainment industries, yet our Governor refuses to allow these industries to reopen, even at reduced capacity and extreme safety protocols.

Bob Iger from Disney resigned from the Governor’s pandemic task force this week and still Newsom refuses to issue guidelines that will allow for the reopening of any theme park. Theme parks around the world have been open for months and managing to safely screen and distance guests. In fact they are far safer than a trip to Walmart or the grocery store where capacity limits, masks, and screenings are either not enforced or non-existent!

At the same time when the working class for California is suffering further job loss Newsom has made way for his own businesses, including wineries to remain open throughout the worst of the pandemic. This is blatant hypocrisy! Newsom’s office refuses to respond to requests sent to his office by constituents and now it is time to come together and let our voices be heard loud and clear, and in unison.

Gavin Newsom, we demand you allow theme parks to reopen now. The parks are willing to work together and establish screening and safety protocols similar to what has been successful in other states and countries during the pandemic. Ignoring this demand is destroying the California economy and the ability of the people to support themselves and their families. If people are free to decide for themselves to visit your wineries they are free to choose to safely visit a theme park.

WE MUST REOPEN CALIFORNIA TOURISM, theme parks, hotels and other supporting industries and their workers have suffered too long.

ACT NOW!
