We are contacting you Regarding concerns over recent decisions that have affected the hair-styling industry.
Hairstylist and aestheticians are more than happy to contribute to flattening the covid curve.  In fact, to obtain a license you have to complete disinfection and sanitation certification.  We are all well-versed in cross-contamination and creating sterile environments.  The beauty industry is highly regulated by the state board that randomly makes inspections at our facilities. If we violate the states requirements we can receive hefty fines that will result in license revocation if left unpaid.
When the CDC first released it’s re-opening guidelines for hair salons ours followed every recommendation. From the temperatures upon entry to staggering clients, we are already trained to disinfect between clients.  Some salons  even took an extra week to reconfigure our station layout to maximize spatial distance.  The  mask is the only addition to our routine.
Now  with The recent surge of covid you have again unfairly lumped salons with theaters venues clubs bars restaurants and churches. You claim That you would be basing your decisions on science.  I’m sure you’re aware of the recent case of two hairstylist who had the virus and saw almost 150 clients between them. Both the client and the stylist wore mask and zero cases were transmitted.  Hair salons have proven that if they follow the guidelines they can provide a safe environment.

If you do not re-open the hair salons then grants need to be given to keep our doors open. While outdoor dining and take out may be a good income stream for restaurants, outdoor hairdressing in the so cal summertime is not feasible.  Customers will not come to our parking lots to look windblown & sweaty.
