Fentanyl, an opioid up to 50 times stronger than Heroin, is the synthetic drug responsible for the alarming rise in overdose deaths across the nation. The effects of this drug are widespread, permeating our schools, streets, and local communities. Losing a loved one to a Fentanyl overdose is a tragedy that no family member, friend, or neighbor should ever have to experience. As college is often a time for drug experimentation and exposure, it is imperative that students are supplied with the tools they need to make informed and safe choices. Through the mandatory placement of drug test kits at all State and UC college campuses, students will have access to these resources to test for the presence of Fentanyl in a discrete manner. As it is unrealistic to think that young adults will cease experimenting with drugs, action must be taken immediately. Arming these students with the resources to test for Fentanyl will be lifesaving.
