Jordan Farber started this petition to Governor Gavin Newsom

As a community Northern California has been plagued by wildfires every year. 2020 however, has been one of the most catastrophic years in recorded history. There has been over 3,750,000 acres burnt in California this year. My family, friends, and community has been displaced or even lost their homes. Over 8,000 fires have started in California destroying over 6,000 structures. These 8,000 plus fires have caused over 70,000 people to be displaced and claimed the lives of over 30 people.

It is because of this that I propose Gavin Newsom makes it one of his primary goals to find more funding for wildfire prevention in California as well as mandate dry brush clearing on private and government owned land. We need to do our part as a community just as much as our government. Gavin Newsom has proposed a 200 million dollar increase in funding however, this may not be enough. The wildfires this year alone have cause over 1.5 billion dollars worth of damage to the state of California. I believe it would only make sense to at least increase the proposed amount to half of the damage done to the state of California.

I call on the residents of California to take action and sign this petition in the hopes that we, as a community, can avoid tragedies like this in the future by increasing funding and mandating dry brush clearing on private and public.
