#Bark4Justice to Free Saelee & Stop ICE Transfers 10/1

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for signing Kao Saelee's petition! We have over 150,000 signatures (and growing)! Please see below for action steps before the delivery of Kao's petition this Thursday 10/1.

Join the #FreeSaelee team this Thursday, 10/1 from 11 am - 1 pm PT to #Bark4Justice for incarcerated firefighter and rescue dog trainer, Kao Saelee, and stop ICE transfers in California! This action involves a furry friend! Digital action guide at: bit.ly/FreeSaelee

Many people like you have been outraged by the treatment of Kao Saelee, a Mien refugee who fought wildfires in 2018 and 2019. When he earned his release from prison this August 2020, California turned him over to ICE for deportation, days before the worst wildfire season in state history began. Like thousands of incarcerated people, Kao also helped train and care for rescue dogs during his time in prison. Kao’s colleagues at the Pawsitive Change Project, which pairs people in prison with abandoned dogs, were heartbroken to learn that Kao is now in ICE detention.

This Thursday 10/1 we will be delivering Kao's petition. Here's a simple action that we - and our four-legged friends- can do to support Kao and to stop these harmful transfers of community members to ICE.

Join the "Paw-tition" on Thursday, October 1, between 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM PT/ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM ET

1) Write out the hashtags #FreeSaeLee and #StopICEtransfers on a piece of paper
2) Snap a picture of your dog or other four-legged friend with the paper
- You don’t have to be in the picture!
- Other pets are welcome too!
3) Post on social media and tag @GavinNewsom. Sample text:
#FreeSaelee! I am PAW-titioning Gov. @GavinNewsom to pardon Kao Saelee, who helped train service dogs while he was in prison. CA also needs to #StopICEtransfers to save lives.

Check out the full action guide at bit.ly/FreeSaelee

A delivery of Kao Saelee’s petition will be submitted to Governor Newsom’s office immediately after the action.

Please share widely!

In solidarity,

#FreeSaelee Team
