American Zoos affect Animals mental well-being. It’s more than common for an animal in a Zoo to develop what is called “Zoochosis”. It is a behavioral disorder that animals in captivity face which causes them to pace, circle, bite the bar cages etc. Animals in Zoos are overfed, they often oversleep and develop loneliness after being stuck in cages their whole life just for human entertainment. None of the animals enjoy people watching them, the attention can make them anxious. I recently visited a Zoo, though the animals were “fun” to look at, you could not help but notice how sad they looked, many alone. I began to remember my feelings during the coronavirus lockdown. I remember feeling often trapped as all of us were shielded from the outside world, taken away from our natural habitat. While I understand some animals need the preserving and help to survive, I think after they receive the help one of the best options is to release them into a more spacious sanctuary where they could roam and explore with other animals. Most animals can not survive in the wild after being in captivity so a sanctuary is the best option for these animals who are longing for a more enjoyable life. So I ask that you please sign this petition to help make a voice for the animals, have the Zoo and aquarium associations listen, to see and understand just what the animals go through every day, they need a change and you can help make it. Mental Health is just as important as physical health.
