Francisco Gutierrez (my grandfather) has been in isolation for 24 days at Sutter Medical Center. He is a Mexican 80 year old man that does not speak English and has Alzheimer’s. Sutter Medical has physically restrained him to a hospital bed without notifying his family. He cannot advocate for himself and his family has been denied access to see him. He should be allowed a designated visitor to improve his health outcome.

Families should be allowed to see their loved ones with disabilities at Sutter Medical. Sutter Medical should abide by the state exceptions per the California Department of Public Health CDPH. “The presence of a support person is essential to patients with physical, intellectual, and/or developmental disabilities and patients with cognitive impairments. CDPH recommends that one support person be allowed to be present with the patient when medically necessary.” The directive is also supported by the CDC, HHS, and CMS. This directive is not being followed by Sutter Medical and they are violating patients civil rights by denying them visitation.

Come join us on Tuesday August 4, 2020 at 3 pm, in front of Sutter Medical Center  (2825 Capitol Avenue Sacramento, CA 95816) to demand equity of care for people with disabilities tha t cannot advocate for themselves.
