Emilee Vanderkooi started this petition to Governor Gavin Newsom

The fist amendment in our constitution prohibits laws "respecting an establishment of religion" and protects freedoms of religion, speech, and the press and the rights to assemble peaceably and petition the government. This amendment, born in 1791, gives us the right to our religion and speech; hence, our freedom in our country. However, Governor Gavin Newsom would be stripping us of these rights if we are not allowed to sing in church due to a virus. Nowhere in this amendment does it say, "only freedom of religion and speech (when it's safe)." These are our God-given freedoms and rights and we the people deserve to sing freely and openly. No governor or person in power should be or will be able to take this freedom away from us. If thousands of people can gather in hopes to bring an end to racism and injustice through marches, petitions, and riots, we should be able to gather in our churches and sing freely as well. Singing WILL NOT spread COVID-19. Our freedoms lie in the hands of the government and we need to speak up for what we believe in. Please, sign this petition and DEMAND that our rights to freedom of religion and speech are given back to us.
