In India, we grow up equating beauty with skin fairness. Such is the peer pressure and embarrassment of being dark-skinned that girls and women undergo trauma & lack of self-confidence. As an escape, they are willingly trapped by the marketing strategies of several products that offer undeniable & invincible ways to get a lighter skin tone.

According to the research conducted by The Conversation Media Group Limited, 70% of the 300 women and men who were interviewed reported that they wanted a date or partner with someone who had light skin. In fact, we all know someone who has gone through the fear of being called names just because his/her skin tone isn’t ‘WHITE’.

In India, we see hope now. We are the spectators of this vital change. As per an ET Report, HUL has renamed ‘Fair & Lovely’ as ‘Glow & Lovely’ and is rebranding Pond’s White Beauty as well, Johnson & Johnson has decided on the Clean & Clear range, L’Oreal & Emami are also working on the same lines. We also hope that they endeavor to uphold a fruitful change in their marketing tactics.

It is the responsibility of consumers like us to advocate such a change.

I am starting this petition for not only initiating renaming ‘Whitetone’, a skin-whitening product range that has since long been advertising that it gives ‘goraa nikhaar, instantly’ but also reframing its USP & marketing strategies that are, were and will never be justified.

I urge all those who support this goal to sign this petition. Small sctions lead to great changes. Let’s do it for that one person we know who has undergone embarrassment that he/she never deserved.

We hope that Vini Cosmetics understands that it’s the time for it to take a step towards REFORM.

Reform, for all those who have fallen prey to the blatant demands of the society for a 'fairer complexion' and also for those who can in future.
