Parents, students, and community stake holders feel that three of the sports fields at Hunter Huss High School are not safe for student athletes, as well as visiting teams. We are asking for approximately $350,000 for the following repairs: resurface tennis courts, resurface track, and a gate on the football practice field.

The tennis courts have a multitude of cracks with grass growing through them which causes this area unsafe for athletes and poses a challenge when hosting matches at the school. The lines on the courts are so faint you can hardly tell where the single, double, alley, or serving lines exist. Collectively, these concerns make the tennis courts hazardous in addition to looking like one of the least attractive courts to play on in the conference.

The track, as with the tennis courts, has a plethora of cracks with grass growing through them and there are no lane lines on the track. This creates difficulties for the coaches while trying to teach the students the importance of staying in their lanes when at a meet. Students are placing in events such as the long jump, high jump, and triple jump; however, the students do not have the required facilities for practicing these events at the school. Furthermore, these issues have led to Hunter Huss High School’s inability to host track meets in over a decade.

The school’s football practice field sees a lot of traffic and not exclusively by students. It is vandalized daily with broken beer bottles, filthy diapers, and used needles by outsiders. Our request for the football practice field to have a gate is imperative. Students deserve not only to be protected while inside the school but also while using the facilities the school provides to them, outside.

Every child deserves to feel proud of their school and what they stand for. The students and the school should not be any different or deserving of less than absolute pride. Despite the fact that the athletic facilities are not conducive to a safe environment, student athletes continue to win games and place in matches. We are confident, provided with sufficient resources, the current students would be more than grateful and excel even further.  Please, take into consideration our plea for help and sign this petition for the future of our children and our community.

Sincerely,

Concerned Parents
