Universal access to our public transport system
This petition had 124 supporters
I have been isolated and unable to live a normal life like the rest of the community. People who use wheelchairs are not able to use most of Bus Eireann's routes. This is simply not fair. The Irish transport system should be equal access for everyone.
Bus Eireann operate over 400 routes but only 4 routes have been declared accessible - this is 1% - even though EU regulation 181/2011 says they have to provide for people with disabilities.
Even though a high percentage of Bus Eireann's buses have the ability to take wheelchair users they do not on the majority of the routes. Bus Eireann blame either inadequate infrastructure or lack of driver training as the reasons why they cannot accept wheelchair users on they accessible buses.
I think it is time that we stand up (or sit up) together and challenge this gross inequality that is in our society today. Please sign my petition so that I can tackle this issue with your support. If you are like me and want Universal Access please sign. Thank you.
