Alexandria Carroll started this petition to Garrard County Board of Education Members and Interim Superintendent

The interim superintendent of Garrard County is proposing a plan to create bus systems with elementary, middle, and high school students. As of right now, the bus systems are separated between elementary and then highschool&middle school. The elementary school children ride a bus with only elementary schoolers. The high schoolers and middle schoolers ride a bus together.

The interim superintendent of Garrard County is proposing a bus system that is supposed to "save money", however, this plan includes integrated all students of all ages and schools to ride one bus (based on division/district).

The cons of this plan are as follows;

1.) Middle schoolers and high schoolers are extremely immature and inappropriate. They swear profusely, vape and do other tobacco things, and talk about topics such as sex, porn, and more. The little children of Garrard County do not need to be exposed to such things.

2.) With a large inflow of new riders and the limited space on the busses, the bus routes would be cut shorter and become denser with drop-offs. Therefore, this causes the time it takes for bus routes to be completed to be cut in half. Bus drivers are paid by the hour, and with their hours already being so few and pay being so little, cutting the bus route times is only hurtful to the drivers.

Those are the two main cons of this proposal, but assuredly, there are more.

There is a possibility that if this plan is approved, most if not all of the drivers will quit or go on strike, leaving the parents left to take their children to school. Obviously, that is not desirable for busy parents who simply don't have the time to drive their children or parents who don't have the ability to drive their children. Not to mention the fact that without bus drivers, there will be no way for students to get to and from school extracurriculars such as competitions.

Bus drivers are some of the most underrated, underappreciated, and underpaid people in the education system, yet they have the biggest impact on student's lives.
