Petition to end the semester with current grades at Gardner-Webb University
Why this petition matters

Remote learning is a challenge for the majority of students. Many students specifically avoid taking online classes, knowing they struggle in them. In addition to this, many students are already anxiety-ridden about the current situation, and this added stress has become an added struggle. Many students do not have reliable access to internet, or else their devices are not fully compatible with learning software and they do not have the funds to purchase new materials. Students who enjoy learning often lose that enthusiasm while schooling online, while it is simply difficult for other students. It is frustrating to watch grades drop in online classes, especially when the student did not sign up to take the course in an online format.
We propose that Gardner-Webb University follows in the footsteps of various other institutions, including Berea College, by making the decision to cancel the semester and pass the students with the current grades they hold in their classes. By allowing students to finish the two online weeks professors have already prepared, professors will be able to finalize their lessons before the semester’s end., and students will have the opportunity to round their grades up should they feel the need to do so. While there is no right answer to follow in a situation like this, we believe cancelling classes will benefit the majority of students.
