There have been three wonderful annual celebrations (October 2017, 2018, 2019) celebrating Tom Petty's music and its Gainesville roots. The last two years have been split between two venues (Heartwood Soundstage and Depot Park), with some admission free and some requiring paid tickets. This has caused confusion about which events have what kind of access. Some people have missed hearing artists or speakers they wanted to hear and see, either due to misunderstanding or lack of awareness.
For October 2020 and years after, we support a coordinated Petty celebration/tribute, where one ticket provides access to events at both Depot Park and Heartwood Soundstage (and potentially other venues and events), with coordinated scheduling and promotion. Some performances and music will be free and some will require a fair paid admission, with an All Access option that will allow attendance to all events. We strongly encourage the sponsors and producers of Depot Park and Heartwood Soundstage to work together to make this happen.
Disambiguation notes: 1) This petition is NOT AFFILIATED WITH OR ENDORSED BY EITHER DAMN THE TORPEDOES, LLC (producer of the Depot Park event), HEARTWOOD SOUNDSTAGE or THE HEARTWOOD FOUNDATION. 2) It is a private effort supported by a small group of concerned citizens. Bob McPeek, who organized this petition, is a FORMER (but not current) owner of Heartwood. 3) There is no request for donations associated with this petition. 4) Our motives for circulating this petition include: a) the desire to honor the music of the most famous Gainesville musician of all time; b) the desire to promote the magic of Gainesville music and to incubate more national and international recognition of our local talent. 5) Depot is a fabulous venue for large events, and Heartwood is a fabulous venue for intimate events that can be recorded and streamed to a worldwide audience. Both venues have a unique role to play that the other cannot. Imagine a big attraction playing a large show at Depot and then an intimate one for major fans at Heartwood. Let's make it happen! Thank you.
