For almost 20 years, Half-Life seeped its footing deep into revolutionizing gaming with magnificent gameplay, brand new methods in experiencing storytelling, creating unforgettable relationships between players and their digital companions and enemies, and spawning countless mods that have turned into very successful games (Counter-Strike, Garry's Mod, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, Sven Co-Op, etc).
However, 10 of these years fans new and old have anticipated the next chapter to continue on the cliffhanger Half-Life 2: Episode 2 had left off on. The hype grew more the longer time went on, and Half-Life 3 as well as the CEO of Valve, Gabe Newell, both became meme-type figures in mass appraisal of Steam, PC gaming, and its much-anticipated future.
During these 10 long years, Gabe Newell teased fans, gave subtle clues and references, and never gave a 100% transparent answer if they were making a sequel and if it would ever happen. Other projects and even employees at Valve have done much more than Gabe has, leading fans to believe there is something to look forward to.
And now with the recent story reading of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 posted by Marc Laidlaw, the frustrated fanbase finally needs its long-awaited conversation with Gabe Newell. We need to know once and for all if Valve is making or will deliver the next installment in the series. And why has Gabe Newell and every Valve employee dodged questions concerning Episode 3/Half-Life 3? Why did Marc Laidlaw make the decision that he made? Why have writers left Valve, and the first game from them in over 5 years is a Dota 2 card game?
Why did it come down to this?
