Furman Park in the City of Downey is played on every day whether it's the residents of Downey, soccer team practices or other leagues.
In the last three years, Downey Parks and Recreation staff have conducted severe lack of maintenance and demononstrated little importance to fix Furman Park.
As you can see from the recent photos taken on September 15, 2013, this issue has become a Public Safety issue. Many parents expressed that they tried multiple attempts and numerous notifications to the Downey Parks and Recreation staff. Unfortunately, park staff visited the site and placed orange cones without fixing the issue. With the recent heat waves, there is a public safety issue where it is noticeable increase of mosquitos, wasps, bees, and other organisms growing on the standing waters. Clearly, there is an irrigation issue.
As residents of Downey and neighbors who live within 100 feet from this problem, we call our Council members to fix our treasured park.
Downey Furman Park needs to be in great shape. Our park is in desperate need of fixing and attention. But with your help, we can fix them.
