Kyley Schmidt started this petition to Fuquay Varina Town Commissioners and

As local residents, we oppose the proposed Atwater Station development as planned.  The design stands out as a higher density community (aka. commercial opportunities and higher density residential) which does not align with the existing infrastructure within the immediate vicinity. This development as planned will cause massive traffic congestion in a residential neighborhood area.  We, the residents, do not want this type of development, and the town commissioners need to hear us.

In addition, we oppose connecting our neighborhoods to the proposed Atwater development because it causes traffic and safety concerns.  The planners removed Mill Ridge's connector street from the new development because it was undesirable and now it's time to treat the other surrounding neighborhoods the same way.  We propose these changes, which satisfy regulatory requirements, but also keep existing neighbors safe:

Whitehurst:  Turn the White Rail Dr. stub street into a cul-de-sac.

Saddle Run:  Use a right in, right out method for the intersection at Bass Lake Road and Westminster Lane.

Background Info:  The current plan for the Atwater Station Development is on the corner of Bass Lake Road and James Slaughter Road.  The town commissioners want to rezone the 165 acre property to include two large commercial tracts,  200 higher density townhomes, and 165 residential homes.  Most of us (the existing residents of the surrounding areas) were expecting residential homes similar to the surrounding neighborhoods, but were not expecting commercial zones and higher density townhomes.

Let's SAY NO to being over run with traffic from commercial areas and higher density housing.  Stop the town from forcing traffic and unwanted development into our backyards, without taking residents' concerns into consideration.  Stop them from connecting our existing neighborhoods to the new development via new cut-through streets, turning our  neighborhood streets into speed ways.  We, the residents of Fuquay Varina like our town the way it is, we don't want to turn into a higher density traffic congestion point.

Residents- the final town council meeting for this development is on February 18, 7pm at 134 N. Main Street, Fuquay Varina, NC.  This is when town commissioners hold the final vote on the plan, so please attend.  And please sign this petition and speak your mind now to be heard.
