Why this petition matters

Started by Nicole Hubilla

In our time, inflation and covid-19 have greatly affected the lives of many Filipinos, from transportation expenses to prices of goods and services. It’s unimaginable how inflation has kept on growing for the past few months. Based on an article from reliefweb.com, October 2022 increased further to 7.7% from 6.9% a month ago, registering a 61% increase compared with the January 2022 rate. This is the highest inflation rate recorded since December 2008 (PSA, 4 Nov 2022). With this, products and services are overpriced and not affordable for minimum wage earners and underprivileged families. There has also been a decline in the number of employees since covid19 started and people have been relying on the government’s ayuda ever since. Of course, the government took action regarding this matter however, I believe that they should consider another solution.

Our government aids the needs of its people with projects that may seem to be an opportunity for corrupt officials. It’s inevitable that the budget fund for the ayuda has already been corrupted before it was handed to us. In addition to this issue is the pabahay project, some people are given the opportunity to acquire these types of programs even though they are ineligible. A massive amount of funds is needed for projects like this including the ayuda given to Filipinos in the midst of the pandemic. A lot of help has been provided for us yet it seems to be not enough. We believe that instead of funding projects that are short-termed beneficial, why not open more opportunities that can help support a family? We can open more job opportunities for undergraduate students and unemployed Filipinos. It will enhance their living standard by allowing them to earn money to pay their bills and buy necessities. Doing so can increase the production rate of specific products or services. If more families can acquire the product or service due to a fixed source of income, then it is better to have higher production.
