Indiana Medicaid has suddenly surprised all of us, who are covered by them, that there is one number to call for doctors appointment rides that will only be scheduled by them. It is our only option for Medicaid to pay for a ride.

I called Southeastrans & told them what happened about missing my appointment &  that missing the appointment was going to be very detrimental to my health. I asked for the number of the transport company but they told me they couldn't give it to me. I told them that under no circumstances would I call them again for their “SERVICES”. I don't even blame the transport company (GPS). It sounds like they are doing the best they can with their new circumstances. The man who came for me told me that he was just helping out. I have heard nightmare stories about this system & heard directly from others who also have had many of the same situations.

There are too many people who's health is in jeopardy for this to not be corrected. I have spoken to several doctors & they are also very upset because they cannot treat a patient who can't get to them. The appointments are having to be cancelled or rescheduled frequently.

Why wasn't this planned ahead? They needed many vans & drivers but neglected to provide them. Medicaid should have given a heads up before making such a drastic move. We can no longer call our local transport companies without paying a very high fee because they are locked into this system.

I have helped many of my patients with issues concerning their Medicare & Medicaid over the years as a nurse & quality control of medical facilities.

Please help all Medicaid recipients obtain rides that have always been either free or at a very low fee. Not everyone has family or friends who can provide their transportation.
