As the warm weather has arrived, we have seen the impact that the school dress code has had on many of our children. Many girls have been “dress coded” for wearing shorts or other apparel deemed appropriate by their parents but inappropriate by school officials. The ability to wear summer clothing that does not expose indecent areas on the body has become altogether impossible due to these ancient dress code practices. Also, the impact that this has on our children’s body image and mental health is detrimental. A revision of the dress code in FSD 157c is in order to update the rules to accommodate children’s summer clothing of today and not yesteryear.
