This is part of the Heritage and HIstory of Dublin, intrinsically woven into the magic of Ulysse's and James Joyce. It would be a great tragedy for this to close. It is just like Bewleys Café's, Read's the Oldest Cutlery shop in Dublin on Parliament St which has since closed or a long time now, I dont know if it will ever open again. The Irish Yeast company ,I think it is called on College St is another Historic Shop. These should not be allowed close because they are part of Dublin charm. Please do not let Sweny's close down.

Joyce used to boast you could rebuild the city from his books...true until about 20 years ago

It's a part of Dublin's unique history. We've already lost too many of our traditional shops.

Much has been destroyed already. If we want to offer a literary/cultural tourist experience and live in a European city rather than in a transatlantic clone ourselves, we had better preserve Sweny's.

This should already have protection as a historical real estate and commercial property. Wavering values in real estate markets should never be allowed to adjust for sale, rents, or developments of historically valued properties in cases exactly like this. I can guarantee the pharmacy has been in existence far longer than the property management attempting to upend this business. That too should be factored into such a decision.
