Concerned Parents of Lahainaluna High School Requesting a Second Music Teacher
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
As parents of Lahainaluna High School students, we were recently informed by Mr. Carlos that his request for a second music teacher has been denied. Therefore, approximately 100 students who have already signed up for music classes for the fall term 2017/2018 will be told that they cannot participate in the LHS music program next school year. For many students their 1st, 2nd and 3rd elective choices will not be available. Without an additional music teacher for the high school music department, Mr. Carlos cannot maintain the program and support the level of interest.
As concerned parents, we would like to help ensure that Lahainaluna High School will be able to accommodate the considerable increase in student interest in the music department. This is a record high enrollment, with 327 students signed up. The marching band is expected to be around 120-130 students, too much to handle for one person. Because of Mr. Carlos’ efforts and creativity, the LHS Marching Band has been chosen to participate in the Holiday Bowl competition in San Diego, December, 2017. This invitation is only given to one school per state. This is an amazing opportunity and for LHS music students to experience.
Lahaina Intermediate School currently has two music teachers and offers piano, choir, ukulele and band.
We are requesting Lahainaluna High School hire a second music teacher so every child interested in music classes will be able to attend for the 2017/2018 school year and onward.
