Over the last few years Fresno County Board of Supervisors has continued to vote on and approve changes to what is allowed on agricultural zoned land. They continually change the process and raise fees. They have made the process to own or operate a simple horseback riding lesson facility virtually unobtainable with the average cost of over $100,000 to complete the permit process. They have gone as far as coming to people's homes and ranches to "count horses" and issues fines for landowners. Recently two of the largest kids' lesson facilities have been forced to close. Horses are in immediate danger of losing their homes and purpose. Many members of public (mostly children) now have nowhere to ride, house their horse, or experience horseback riding for the first time. Many use horses as a form of therapy and now are forced to stop. 

Fresno County MUST end the ridiculous and outlandish permit process for equine facilities and eliminate the fees completely or reduce to a reasonable number such as neighboring counties that only require a $100 application fee. 

If this is not changed immediately within 10 yrs. the entire equine industry will be gone in Fresno County. Over 5 large facilities have already closed in the last 15 years. A lot of people lost their jobs and horses lost their homes. No horse rescues are able to operate and thus horses needing care and homes are shipped elsewhere. Children from all demographics are affected as it will eradicate their only chance of experiencing horses or ranch life if more facilities are forced to close at the rate they are now. 

Horses inspire us to do better. They teach empathy, compassion, teamwork, bravery, and so much more. They humble you and encourage you to cheer to for others. In a world full of violence and tension a horse can heal even the heaviest and most broken heart. We NEED to allow more horseback riding facilities to open.
