Last year, community members, organizers, as well as students and Roosevelt High School admin from Southeast Fresno came together to fight against the building of a 7/11 liquor store across from the high school. The building of the store was denied but, this year, the planners have taken advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to once again apply for a builder's permit. Community members agree on these basic points: 1. Southeast Fresno is already over saturated with convenience stores and not enough healthy food markets. 2. Instead of liquor stores we need more green space! 3. Youth access to alcohol and tobacco is a huge issue in our communities. 4.The planners are counting on lower turnout due to social distancing restrictions which make in person outreach literally life threatening. The decision has now been left up to our Fresno City Council. Help show the Council that despite our many disadvantages, Southeast Fresno residents still have power!
