Stop Or Move The Proposed Small Dog Enclosure At Stevens Reserve

Fremantle Council are spending $000s on a small dog enclosure that is unwanted by the local dog owners at Stevens Reserve. There is a thriving community of dog owners who coexist at the sporting facility so why spend money on something that works just fine? The area identified is too small and adjacent to a basket ball practice wall. The irrigation system is non existant in the area chosen and there is no prospect of additional water, turning the enclosure into a dust bowl. Also, there are no parking facilities, which begs the question, why spend the money if you don't expect people to come?

Fremantle Council have failed to comply with their own Community Engagement Policy and have not canvassed opinion of the people who use Stevens Reserve. Some estimates suggest a price tag of $20,000 or more.

If Freo Council really believe that this is a good idea and people will come and use a small dust bowl dog enclosure, then at least they could have the foresight to put it somewhere where more people can access it, where safe parking is available , where local business will benefit from the additional numbers and it is a safe from flying basket balls.

Even the original proposer would support the Small Dog Enclosure in Booyeembara Park, which is the focus of regeneration at the moment and fits in with current Council Policy.

So come on...give a voice to your thoughts and have your say. The council is staffed by our representatives who should take the community view if they want to stay in office.

Please sign this petition and ask Freo Council to stop this project or move it somewhere helpful like Boo Park.
