Freeze the University Eviction of Faculty and Staff

Freeze the University Eviction of Faculty and Staff
The University of the South is evicting 18 faculty and staff members from their Sewanee rental housing. Regardless of policies in place, the University needs to freeze this process as the domain is in the middle of a housing crisis. Low income housing is double what it should be in Sewanee, and due to Air Bnb’s and rich alumni/faculty owning second homes, there is no where for this staff to live. This group of employees includes tenured professors, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC faculty/staff, and more. These people have no where to go and we’re given 60 days notice. The University needs to freeze the eviction process until it can guarantee housing for all it’s employees and Air BnB’s and second homes no one lives in a majority of the year are banned. Eighteen faculty and staff face homelessness and when the University was asked what would be done, they chose to not freeze the process this past week. Do better Sewanee, is this EQB?
