Free transport for pupil in County Durham travelling to SKS, Alston

From September 2018, pupils travelling from County Durham into Cumbria to attend Samuel King’s School will be forced to pay a daily rate of £5.00 per pupil for transport. So overall this means paying £25.00 a week if you attend the COMPULSORY 5 days per week. This could mean that larger families who send 2, 3 or maybe even 4 children to the newly refurbished school in Alston may have to pay up to £100.00 per week. As we all know Weardale and Alston are very rural, isolated and secluded areas HOWEVER this should not limit the opportunities for pupils who are obliged to attend secondary education. For many students living in Upper Weardale and parts of Northumbria, Samuel King’s is the closest up and coming secondary establishment. PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION!
