In the midst of the tumultuous events in Libya, Rana and Hani Alakbani (a sister-brother pair) have been arrested by Gadaffi forces. Neither their family, nor the international community knows their whereabouts or what condition they are in. Time is of the essence and we must act now to pressure the Gadaffi regime to release Rana and Hani and safely return them to their family!
Rana and Hani are Syrian citizens who were raised in Libya and spent the majority of their lives there. They were both arrested on the morning of March 28th. The reasons behind their arrest are unclear. The Gadaffi regime claims that Rana, a journalist who graduated from Gar Younes University in Benghazi, was "conspiring with the enemy." No further details on her arrest have been given. Rana has been an outspoken supporter of the revolutionaries during the current uprising. On March 30th, she was interrogated by a Libyan television personality who works for the government. This clip of a distraught Rana can be viewed at the following link: http://almanaramedia.blogspot.com/2011/03/blog-post_7932.html
We can only imagine the consequences Rana faced for staying true to her principles during this interrogation. Our request is urgent: We call on the Gadaffi regime to stop terrorizing these innocent people and FREE RANA AND HANI ALAKBANI!
We are so proud to see that you have made the ethical choice in our country's involvement in Libya and saving its people from a brutal regime. In the midst of the tumultuous events in Libya, Rana and Hani Alakbani (a sister-brother pair) have been arrested by Gadaffi forces. They are being held against their will and their lives are in danger.
I am writing to ask you to urge the Gadaffi regime to release Rana and Hani Alakbani. Time is of the essence; we can only imagine the dangerous circumstances they are facing.
