Periods are something that affects nearly half of the student population at UW-Madison, yet period poverty is not widely discussed. A study involving college-aged individuals who menstruate reported that 14.2% had experienced period poverty in the past year. An additional 10.0% experienced it every month. Students affected by period poverty often miss out on experiences and cannot participate in their own daily lives. No student should have to endure the physical, mental, and emotional stress this problems creates.

To combat this, UW-Madison should implement free menstrual hygeine products in all female and gender neutral bathrooms on campus. This small change could alleviate stress for many students and staff on campus, and increase the wellbeing of our student population.
