On Friday, September 23rd, 2022, Ge’Nya Owens (a Sophomore in High school, Cheerleader, Student Council and BSU member) was hit in the face by a girl who didn’t like her. Ge’Nya even warned the Principal of Clark Montessori about the situation beforehand. Ge’Nya did not provoke her but Ge’Nya did defend herself. Ge’Nya is currently suspended from school until further notice. Ge’Nya is also not allowed to cheer for her High-school team because “fighting is not what cheerleaders do”. There are students who are just like Ge’Nya facing the exact same consequences for something they did not start. Schools should be more reasonable and students who defend themselves should get after-school detention at most. Sign to help change the rules.
